WOMEN NEED ACTION NOT ADVICE
Following the horrifying spate of killings of women in Ekurhuleni, women are once again being told to be vigilant.
But South African women donāt need another warning.
We need police capable of catching the criminals who hurt them.
Donāt go out at night.
Share your location.
Message when you get home.
Women know. We have been vigilant our whole lives.
The responsibility for keeping women safe cannot continue to fall on women themselves.
The police have a responsibility too.
ā¢ā ā Investigators of crimes against women and children must be properly resourced.
ā¢ā ā DNA testing must happen swiftly to bring perpetrators to book.
ā¢ā ā Government must provide the crime stats needed to know whether the system is working.
Right now, all three are failing.
OUR DEMANDS
INVESTIGATE:
Properly resource Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Units.
Fill critical vacancies and give investigators the vehicles, forensic support and resources they need to investigate crimes against women and children properly.
DA oversight has shown investigators are being setup to fail.
CATCH:
Clear the DNA backlog.
Set and meet a clear turnaround time for processing forensic evidence so that DNA can be used to identify perpetrators and convict without years of delay.
In July 2026, the Acting Police Minister confirmed that a DNA sample waits an average of 800 calendar days before analysis.
The oldest sample had been waiting 1,273 days.
That is more than two years for evidence to be analysed on average.
Women are being told to change their behaviour to stay safe while evidence that could help identify perpetrators is sitting in the system for years.
ACCOUNT:
Publish reliable, comprehensive statistics on violence against women and children every quarter.
South Africans deserve to know the true scale and nature of violence against women and children.
But government cannot be held accountable if it does not reliably publish the information needed to measure the problem.

We are tired of being told how to avoid becoming victims.

Now we need government to do its job.
